Bla\u017ei\u010d Bla\u017e white<\/a>\u00a02019 is a serious macerated white wine <\/span> with a delicately buttery texture, soft tannins and lovely juicy acids. These, together with a pleasant salinity, give the wine a strong backbone. The colour is golden yellow. A top-quality Brda cuv\u00e9e still more on the fruity side and at the beginning of its journey. We mainly detect vineyard peach, nectarine, fresh apricot, ripe yellow apple and fresh, juicy pear. The aftertaste is very pleasant and long. The fruity minerality lingers in the mouth long after the last sip. Both the first and the last sip call for (at least) one more. The 2019 Bla\u017e has gained elegance and refinement compared to previous vintages, while retaining a touch of terroir.<\/p>\n

Bla\u017ei\u010d family<\/h5>\n

The Bla\u017ei\u010d homestead boasts one of the longest traditions of continuity of the same family in Brda. Borut’s great-grandfather Peter bought the farm in 1890 with the intention of growing wine and fruit. Today, the farm is home to three generations who are faithfully carrying on the family tradition. The Bla\u017ei\u010d family first bottled their wines in 1993. They cultivate nine hectares of vineyards located on the Slovenian and Italian sides of Brda – locations of Ple\u0161ivo, Medana and Biljana. Mostly white varieties are grown, of which Ribolla and Sauvignonasse (Tocai Friulano) are particularly well known. Of the reds, some Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are produced.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vineyards and winery<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n

All vineyard operations are subject to a nature-friendly approach and the philosophy that the cellar is an extension of the vineyard, not the other way around. Since recently, they are also officially certified organic farm. Excellent location, rich mineral structure of the soil and the non-invasive approach, together with the relatively high vine age (up to 50 years), ensure wines of strong character, with a clear reflection of the individual varieties and microlocations. The fact is that the winegrower is part of the terroir, and in Bla\u017ei\u010d’s wines this is more than evident. In the most positive sense, of course.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Most of the work in the vineyards is done by hand. The same goes for the harvest, where rigorous selection is carried out in the vineyards. In the cellar, which Borut sees as “just” a continuation of the vineyard, the processes and interventions are as minimalist as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Slightly opaque, deeper amber. The bouquet is accentuated, offering ripeness, honey, classic balsamic notes, accompanied by a lively primary aroma that is difficult to describe and which enlivens the wine. Even on wet stone, salty. Time is its ally, it opens up beautifully. Dry on the palate, the wine doesn’t pretend for a moment that it’s not bold! Plenty of oily texture and a hint of sweetness. Malvasia, which shows variety in the background, mirroring Bla\u017ei\u010d’s classic style, which relies on intensity and palate-pleasing flavours. The higher alcohol level and texture almost cover the already delicate tannins. Complex and long. A superb amber malvasia with a long and complex aftertaste. <\/span><\/p>\n
