Michi Lorenz<\/a> Sauvignon Klasik is a light golden-yellow colour that impresses on the nose with beautiful mineral notes of a stony base and delicate elderflower and currant. Taste is a blend of fresh green apples, elderflower tea, white stone fruit and intense minerality. The wine is beautifully balanced, with a nice fruity and salty aftertaste.<\/p>\n

After hand-picking, the grapes were destemmed, crushed and macerated for 24 hours. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place spontaneously. The wine is aged in inox containers until August of the following year, with three months on the lees. Before bottling, it passes through a coarse filter, which means that the fine particles remain in the wine. A great example of a spontaneously fermented, fresh sauvignon, where the “typical” notes are present but do not stand out.<\/p>\n

Estate<\/span><\/h5>\n

The estate of the Michi Lorenz Kitzeck winery has been cultivated for more than 500 years. Michi took over the vines and the winery 15 years ago. His philosophy is to bring as much local provenance as possible into the wines. Together with his wife Michaela and with the active support of his parents Gerti and Hansi, he runs the family winery, which also includes a wine bar and guest rooms. Michi Lorenz cultivates a total of 16 hectares of vineyards, 80% of which are white and 20% red. His main variety is sauvignon blanc, for which he has won numerous awards. Other important varieties on the estate are Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Welschriesling, Riesling and Yellow Muscat. All of them produce top-quality varietal wines and cuv\u00e9es. In the newly built cellar, wines are being aged in used oak barrels and modern inox tanks.<\/p>\n

Michi Lorenz<\/h5>\n

When you get to know Michi Lorenz a little better, you are not just sitting opposite one person, but a different, multi-faced personality. He is an artistic dreamer, but also a hard worker. He is an old soul, but also a modern thinker. He is a real charmer, a man. It’s actually quite amazing. In the sense that sometimes it is not easy to understand.<\/p>\n

And the best part is that you can taste it! You can smell in the glass which of his personalities has come out in this wine and, from the first sip, you have a rough sketch of his emotional world in your mind. You can taste the sophisticated dreamer, but also the unconventional thinker. You cannot classify his wines in any one way. Often the grape variety is the main performer on stage, at other times it plays a subordinate role in the orchestra as a whole. Sometimes his wines are a lively young ensemble, other times a mature gentleman who lights up the stage.<\/p>\n

Wines<\/h5>\n

The logical consequence is that Michi Lorenz wines often impress only after the second or third sip. The focus can be on the variety, then again on the terroir, or on the time that has passed when the wine was being aged. Michi likes to compare his wines to music. There is an art to attracting a lot of attention with soft tones. Not being loud and fascinating people at the same time, that’s what he wants to achieve. He doesn’t make disco wines that are loud, screaming and get everyone excited at first sight, but rather quiet, deep wines that reveal themselves over time. The authenticity behind his creations is what sets him apart from the majority. But you need not fear that his wines are only for experts. On the contrary, they inspire great drinking pleasure and make you want more. The typical minerality of the Sausal primary rock is always recognisable, and the deftly balanced acid structure completes the fruit component. His wines could be described as lean and structured, but never boring. There is no use of artificial fertilisers, herbicides, pesticides or systemics and relies 100% on spontaneous fermentations. A variety of Chardonnay and Riesling. Fermentation in open vats with extended maceration. The wine has very pleasant acids, soft tannins and a balanced complexity. Dried apricots, ripe apple, meadow herbs and a stony-saline minerality. The wine is sulphur-free.
