Texier<\/a>, Ch\u00e2teauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2019 is a white gem made from bourbolenc (50%) and clairette (50%) varieties. It is made from grapes from the Bois S\u00e9n\u00e9chaux vineyards, which are grown organically by Eric’s long-time friend Jean Rich\u00e9. Soft golden yellow color. On the nose, you can already feel an intense but pleasant fruitiness. The body is full and balanced with freshness and minerality. Ripe apple, pear, peach and delicate tropical fruits caress the palate. Relatively early harvest ensures beautiful freshness. The aftertaste is pleasantly intense and long. Over the years, the fruitiness slowly gives way to noble tertiary aromas and delicate honey notes. One of the best white wines of the Rhone Valley.<\/p>\n

Vinification takes place in used wooden vats. The grapes are de-stemmed and gently pressed, fermented spontaneously and then aged in used barrels for 16-20 months. Wine is bottled without filtration and fining. Sulphites are not added.<\/p>\n

His path<\/h5>\n

Eric Texier traded in his career as a nuclear physics engineer for a career as a viticulturist – winemaker – more than two decades ago. Today, he cultivates around 12 hectares of vineyards in two locations in the northern Rh\u00f4ne: Br\u00e9z\u00e8me, with a predominantly limestone soil structure on the left, and Ard\u00e8che, on the right bank of the Rh\u00f4ne, with a subsoil of granite, flints and gneiss, which are historically important appellations in the region, but have always been somewhat neglected due to their small size.<\/p>\n

Working in vineyards and wineries<\/h5>\n

All work in vineyards is aimed at preserving biodiversity and thus maintaining balance. The varieties produced are syrah, serine, grenache, cinsault, roussanne and clairette. In addition to wines from his own vineyards, Eric also produces red and white Ch\u00e2teauneuf-du-Pape each year, buying grapes from his winemaker friend of a similar philosophy. The minimalist approach continues in the cellar.<\/p>\n

Red grapes are not, or only partially, de-stemmed. Macerations are relatively short and rarely exceed 8 days. Fermentations are spontaneous and take place in open concrete or wooden vats. The wines are mostly aged (6-48 months) in concrete tanks, with some in large used barrels. There is no filtration and fining before bottling, and a modest addition of sulphur is possible but not essential. Texier wines are undoubtedly one of those that reflect the varieties and micro-locations of the vineyards much more than the influence of the winemaker.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Philippe Viret farms using a method that is biodynamic in principle, but which he calls “Cosmoculture”. No sulphur is added to the wines. Aromas of dark fruit, ripe plum, minerality, slightly spicy, which is even more evident on the palate, where blackberry joins in. Tannins are expressed and acids are consistent. A full, warm body. A ripe red apple with a nice long aftertaste. Exceptional freshness, despite the high alcohol.
