Le Puy Emilien<\/a> is a premium Bordeaux made up of merlot (85% ), cabernet sauvignon (7%), cabernet franc (6%), malbec (1%) and carm\u00e9n\u00e8re (1%) It comes from the Right Bank – the same plateau as Saint Emilion and Pomerol. Spontaneous fermentation and maceration take place in concrete tanks, followed by maturation for 12 months in large barrels (50hl), then another 12 months in old barriques. The colour is ruby-garnet red. The scent is elegant and characterful. Ripe red fruit – cherries, strawberries, raspberries, red and blackcurrants. Taste: fruity – raspberries, currants, ripe and dried plums, blueberries, with first tertiary aromas. Pronounced but soft tannins, minerality. An exceptional, long aftertaste. Bordeaux with the delicacy of Burgundy.<\/p>\n

Working in vineyards and wineries<\/h4>\n

The Amoreau family and their colleagues on the estate carefully monitor the biological balance. Alongside the vines, the farm hosts many other plants and crops as well as animals. All of which ensure that the soil is rich in micro-organisms. By planting shrubs such as currants and olive trees in the vineyards, they create a polyculture rather than monoculture. After hand-picking and careful selection, the grapes are de-stemmed, crushed and fermented spontaneously in concrete tanks. After about a month of maceration, the wine is gently pressed and matured for at least two years in large used casks and barriques, which are replaced by new ones very rarely and each time at a small percentage. The family does not want the smell or taste of new oak barrels in their wines.<\/p>\n

History of the estate<\/h4>\n

The Le Puy estate<\/a> dates back to 1610, when the ancestors of the present-day Amoreau family were first mentioned in the records at Le Puy<\/a>. The first generations, in addition to viticulture and livestock breeding, also engaged in handicraft activities to help them survive. In different generations, they were barrel makers, blacksmiths, weavers … Apart from sulphur, the estate has never used chemical products such as insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and systemics in its 400-year history. With each generation, the wine-growing and winemaking knowledge and experience has grown. In 1868, Barth\u00e9lemy Amoreau (Jean Pierre Amoreau’s great-grandfather) began to question the use of sulphites as an additive to wine. Philippe Viret farms using a method that is biodynamic in principle, but which he calls “Cosmoculture”. No sulphur is added to the wines. Aromas of dark fruit, ripe plum, minerality, slightly spicy, which is even more evident on the palate, where blackberry joins in. Tannins are expressed and acids are consistent. A full, warm body.
